CATTLE CLASSES
Once again the Heathfield Show is putting on a full morning of competition in the Cattle rings. Many of the Cattle arrive on Friday evening and spend the night on the Showground being prepared by their proud stockman for the activities of Show day. Judges will be looking for best of breed and then ultimately Show Champion in both the beef and dairy cattle breeds. The highlight of the day for many is the cattle parade in the main arena at 16.15 when all the cattle wind their way, in a maze like sequence, around the ring for all to see.
There will be classes for Ayrshire Holstein and a new class for Any Other Pure Bred Dairy Breeds.
Beef cattle classes will include Hereford Sussex Limousin and Charolais
Further classes for Any Other Pedigree Beef or Dual Purpose Breeds including new bull class for Dexters

YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD
HENRY NOAKES YOUNG ACHIEVER TROPHY
Presented by the Noakes family in memory of Henry Noakes.
The award this year will be presented to a Young Person under 16 years
of age showing an animal in a Cattle class and who, in the view of the
Judge, has shown an outstanding ability. The award is rotational between
Sheep, Cattle, and Horse and classes. In 2010 it will be awarded to an
exhibitor in the Cattle section, 2011 to an exhibitor in the Horse section.
SHEEP SHEARING
Sheep shearing and wool production has been an important part of the UK’s sheep industry over the last six thousand years. Sheep are either sheared in the early summer months, or immediately prior to winter housing. Since sheep breeds no longer naturally moult, shearing is necessary to prevent the animal from overheating either when indoors, or outside during hot summer months. Phil Hart will be giving a sheep shearing demonstration during the day. This Gold award sheep shearer will expertly demonstrate his skill and craftsmanship with a running commentary given by David Meadows.
FARMYARD
Plumpton Agricultural College will once more be organising the Farmyard at the Heathfield Show. The Farmyard is located in a marquee parallel to the Sheep Show and will once again contain a sow and her litter of piglets, ewes and their lambs, and a cow and calf. Buttercup the mechanical Dairy Cow will be giving children the opportunity for a DIY experience of milking. A must for every child.
PIG CLASSES
Last year the pig classes returned to the Heathfield Show, this year we are hoping to build on this success and have increased the number of classes for pig owners to exhibit their animals. Pigs have a will of their own so enjoy watching them being herded by their handlers.
HORSE CLASSES
Once again with nearly 700 entries in the Horse Show, exhibiting in 5 rings throughout the day, there will be a lot of horse activity around the Showground. Veteran Horse Society Showing, National Pony Society, Ponies UK, Side Saddle, Driving, Arab and Equifest and the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead. Also Retrained Racehorses / TBs – Qualifier for Tattersalls/ROR Thoroughbred Show Series class, ROR/Tattersalls/SEIB Racehorse Challenge and SHB In-Hand Sports Horses American Saddlebreds, NFU Mutal ID In-Hand. With large entries in both the Side Saddle and Heavy Horse classes there should be some spectacular viewing opportunities, consult your timetable for times of these events.
Many classes are qualifiers for National Competitions.

FLOWER SHOW
Sponsored by Swindells & Gentry
Located in the traditional marquee on the north of the Showground, the Flower Show commands the respect of all. This majestic marquee houses some of the most spectacular flower arrangements you are likely to see. The scent in the tent is almost overpowering and the visual colours from all the flowers needs to be seen to be believed. The title of this year’s competition is ‘The Environment’. Come and see how individual exhibitors interpret this theme – a ‘must do’ on Show day. If you would like to be involved and receive details for the 2010 competition please contact Mrs Sue Browning on 01435 866724
