2008 Heathfield & District Agricultural Show -
promises to be bigger and better than ever
The Heathfield & District Agricultural Show is the premier one day agricultural show in the south east bringing an exciting day out for the young and old. This year's Show will be on Saturday 24th May at Little Tottingworth Farm, Broad Oak, by kind permission of the Executors of Mr & Mrs D W Browning. The Show has become a 'must do' in the diaries of country loving people both locally and from far and wide.
Throughout the day events include the grand parade of livestock, the horse show, working steam, Country Ways, the shopping arcades, ever changing displays in the main arena throughout the day, a Flower Show and many more attractions. In addition, there are 10 sheep, cattle, pig and horse competition rings being used throughout the morning and early afternoon to ensure there is plenty for all the family to see and do.
Heathfield Show has been chosen as a qualifier show for many of the major horse events throughout England. We are proud to have been chosen as one of the qualifier classes for the Veteran Horse Society Showing championship. Additionally, new classes for 2008 include American Classes, Irish Draught Youngstock Challenge, NPS SP In Hand Championship.
Attractions in the Main arena include Jason Smythe's Adrenalin Tour. Jason, a world championship moto-cross rider, will perform amazing tricks on a quad bike and a mini bike, as well as wheelies and 'stoppies' on a motorbike. He will also perform moto-cross freestyle jumps, catching items of memorabilia in mid air and then awarding them to the crowd. Whilst performing these stunts Jason gives a running commentary via a headset microphone.
A Shetland Pony Grand National will take place twice during the day. This exciting race is a total miniature version of the well known Aintree Grand National. The Shetland Pony must complete the course jumping the miniature hurdles with Jockey and Pony intact. It's a race against the rest and the first past the post wins, it's as simple as that. All jockeys are children aged between nine and fourteen. Come and cheer them on.
Heathfield Farmers' Market will once again have an area of the Showground dedicated to locally produced food and the Country Ways area will be promoting traditional country crafts. High Weald Crafts are setting up a marquee with over 30 local craft stalls attending. The Heathfield Silver Band will be playing at intervals throughout the day.
The theme for this year's Floral Arrangement Show will be "The Arts" and offers competitive classes for all stages of flower arrangers. The Flower Marquee is one of the must sees at the Show - absorb the fragrant scents and spectacularly colourful displays.
